Introduction

The Mai Mai Supplies is a new company, owned and operated by Steve Boyd and Catherine Park, and we are excited to introduce the Nobel Sport Italia range of shotgun cartridges to New Zealand.  We have been involved in the hunting scene for the last 20 years but we are only new to the clay bird shooting circuit and our aim is to be able provide a good range of excellent quality shooting and hunting cartridges at an affordable price.

One of the reasons for the opening of the Mai Mai Supplies was we were trying to find a subsonic cartridge suitable for recoil sensitive shooters, plus a better range of sub gauges (how many of you have a 20 gauge shotgun sitting at home that is just too expensive to use), and we were also looking for a range of cartridges more friendly to the environment.

Not being able to find anything in NZ and after months of research, one company stood out from the rest being Nobel Sport Italia and their range of target and hunting cartridges. After a few months of negotiating and cutting red tape the first 20ft shipping container was put on the water, leaving Italy and arriving in NZ in early January 2010.

We now boast a full range of gauges and shot sizes for all levels of shooters including ladies and younger shooters requiring a softer recoiling cartridge, right through to the top of the line, hard hitting olympic standard, award winning Quattro series cartridges.

We are one of the few, if not the only place in NZ, where you can buy discipline specific cartridges ie, not just a trap or universal cartridge with 9 shot called a skeet cartridge, our skeet cartridges are designed specifically to perform in the skeet arena. Same applies for our trap and sporting cartridges, these are specifically designed for their disciplines.

So who is Nobel Sport Italia and the Nobelsport group?

A manufacturer crafting all components in house and with 100% Research and Development of all components and finished products, the Nobelsport Group is the biggest component and cartridge manufacturer in the world and owns propriety brands such as ‘Vectan’ and ‘Martignoni’. Manufacturing brands in France, Viri, FOB and Tunet, combined with hulls and wads from the NobelsportItalia Italian plant located in San Giuliano Terme, Tuscany, primers from Martignoni, Italy and powder manufacture also from Italy and France, the group also extends to GMBH Nobel and also Nobelsport Spain for component supply. After absorbing the ‘Maionchi’ plant (Lucca, Italy) in 2001 a total revamp of the facility was undertaken and full ISO accreditation received, before the newly named NobelsportItalia brand was launched.

The R&D team at NobelsportItalia have turned out a great range of cartridges that perform in all aspects, feel, velocity, pattern performance at a price that is exceptional for the quality of the end product. Batch consistency is paramount and the factory is the most modern in the world undergoing constant refits and introductions of new technologies as they evolve. Utilising the benefits of manufacturing all their own products the way they want them to be has obvious advantages over simply buying components and assembling them together.
